An illustration by Pieter Bleeker (1819 to 1870), who was a Dutch medical doctor, ichthyologist, and herpetologist. He served as a medical officer in the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army and was stationed in Indonesia. This selection is from his published monumental work, Atlas Ichthyologique des Indes Orientales Néêrlandaises, which contains over 1,500 illustrations.
